Australia monitors Chinese warships near east coast but sees no legal threat
Australia reported that Chinese warships near its east coast are not violating international law. The presence of these ships is unusual but not unprecedented, according to Defence Minister Richard Marles. Three Chinese vessels, including a frigate and a cruiser, were spotted off the coast. They are being monitored as they navigate within 150 nautical miles of Sydney. Recent airspace transgressions in the South China Sea have increased. Australia previously criticized China for aggressive actions, while Beijing accused Australia of violating its sovereignty. Marles is meeting with Papua New Guinea's defense minister to discuss a defense treaty.
