Aurora police release video of Christopher Lepe's shooting

Aurora police have released video footage related to the fatal shooting of Christopher Lepe, a 19-year-old, on March 19. The footage was made public on Monday and is available on the department's Facebook page. Police Chief Keith Cross stated that the video contains graphic content and may be upsetting to viewers. He emphasized the importance of transparency in the investigation. The shooting occurred when Aurora police were called to help find a suspect connected to a serious incident involving a Geneva police officer. During a police pursuit, officers stopped a vehicle. Police reported that the driver, Lepe, showed a weapon, prompting two officers to fire at him. Lepe was given medical aid at the scene and later died at a hospital. His death has sparked community outcry. Family members and residents held a candlelight vigil outside the police department, asking for more information about the incident. The released footage includes the initial call for assistance, as well as dashboard and body camera recordings from the officers. Some parts of the audio have been edited for privacy reasons. Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin supported the release of the video, recognizing the public's need for clarity during this difficult time. The shooting is still being investigated by local authorities.
