Atasha Muhlach leads Philippine remake of 'Bad Genius'
Atasha Muhlach has been named the lead actress in the Philippine remake of the 2017 Thai film "Bad Genius." She will play the character Linette Estrella, or Lin. The announcement was made during a story conference on March 18, where director Derick Cabrido also revealed the supporting cast. Other actors joining Muhlach include Jairus Aquino, who will play Tristan Bangkat, Hyacinth Callado as Grace Ann Dizon, and Gab Lagman as Patrick Joseph Tioseco. Muhlach expressed her excitement and nerves about her first lead project, stating she aims to give her best effort. The remake will be developed into a series, allowing audiences to explore the characters in more depth. Muhlach explained that this role will showcase a different side of her personality, moving away from her usual cheerful image seen on shows like "Eat Bulaga." In the original "Bad Genius," the story follows a scholar who creates a cheating scheme. Muhlach is familiar with the film from her college years and views it as a compelling story rather than merely controversial. She acknowledged the honor of taking on this significant role and confirmed her readiness to tackle the challenges ahead. Filming for the series is set to begin sometime in March. Further details about its premiere date and any changes to the storyline have yet to be announced. The original film has gained international attention and has been remade in India and the US.
