ASI discovers over 110 megalithic structures in Kerala
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has made a notable discovery near the Malampuzha Dam in Kerala. They found over 110 megalithic structures in the area. The ASI shared the news on its official X account, posting images of these ancient findings. The structures are spread across about 45 hectares of land on hillocks, resembling small islands. Most of the burials found are of the cist type, which can be single or multi-chambered. Other features identified include stone circles, urns, dolmens, and dolmenoid cists. The structures are mainly constructed from large granite slabs, with some also using laterite stones. The ASI believes this discovery can provide valuable insights into early Iron Age societies in Kerala. It could shed light on their burial practices and belief systems. This finding follows another recent discovery of ancient inscriptions in the Lankamala Reserve Forest of Andhra Pradesh.
