Phoenix police have arrested 61-year-old David Mundt in connection with a nearly 40-year-old sexual assault case from July 6, 1986. The case involved the kidnapping and assault of a child, who was later found safe. The investigation went cold for years, but in 2024, detectives used Investigative Genetic Genealogy to identify Mundt as a suspect. DNA evidence linked him to a similar case in Texas from 1992. Mundt is currently facing charges of kidnapping and sexual assault in Arizona, as well as charges in Texas. He will be extradited to Arizona to face the local charges once the process is completed.
