Armand Duplantis wins BBC World Sport Star of the Year for 2024

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has been named the BBC Sports Personality's World Sport Star of the Year for 2024. This recognition follows his record-breaking performances, including retaining his Olympic title and setting a new world record of 6.26 meters. Duplantis, known as Mondo, broke the world record three times in 2024. He first cleared 6.24 meters in April, then surpassed that at the Olympics in Paris, and finally set the current record in August at a Diamond League event in Poland. This award was determined by votes from BBC Sport users. Duplantis is the second consecutive Scandinavian to win, following Norwegian footballer Erling Haaland in 2023.
