Arizona Rep. Raúl Grijalva has died at 77

Democratic Rep. Raúl Grijalva of Arizona passed away on Thursday at age 77 due to complications from cancer treatments. He had served in the House of Representatives since 2003 and was a prominent figure in the House Natural Resources Committee. Grijalva had been largely absent from votes in 2024 and 2025 due to his illness. He announced in October that he would not seek re-election after his current term. He is the second Democratic lawmaker to die during the 119th Congress, following former Rep. Sylvester Turner of Texas, who passed away on March 5.
