Arizona Rep. Raúl Grijalva dies at 77

Democratic Rep. Raúl Grijalva of Arizona has died at age 77 due to complications from cancer treatment. His office confirmed his passing on Thursday morning. Grijalva announced his cancer diagnosis in April 2024 and had been undergoing treatment since then. He was first elected to Congress in 2002 and served on the House Natural Resources Committee. A special election will be held to fill his vacant seat. Grijalva was a prominent member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
