Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva dies at 77
Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva has died at 77 due to complications from cancer treatment. He was diagnosed with cancer in April 2024 and had been receiving treatment for a persistent cough and pneumonia. Grijalva, first elected in 2002, represented Arizona’s 7th district. He won his last term by over 25 percentage points in November. His death reduces the Democratic representation in the House, giving Republicans a 218-213 advantage. A special election will be held to fill his seat. Grijalva is survived by his wife and three daughters. His passing follows the recent death of Texas Congressman Sylvester Turner.
