Apple to integrate visual AI in upcoming devices

Apple is changing its strategy for artificial intelligence by focusing on visual technology instead of chatbots. The company wants to integrate cameras into its devices like AirPods and Apple Watch by 2027. This initiative, called Visual Intelligence, aims to allow users to interact with Siri using what they see in real-time. The effort began with a feature in the iPhone 16 that lets users open the camera and get AI-powered explanations for images. Users can ask Siri to translate signs or gain information about nearby landmarks. According to Bloomberg, this visual technology will become central to future Apple devices, promoting a more natural and hands-free way of using AI. However, Apple faces challenges. The Vision Pro headset, featuring advanced technology, is costly and not very comfortable for extended use. The company is working on a more affordable version to compete with Meta's VR products, and AI features for the Vision Pro are expected next month. Apple's push to enhance Siri into a more advanced assistant has also faced setbacks, with delays pushing its full rollout to 2027. Concerns about Apple Intelligence's performance have led to a lawsuit over false advertising. Recently, Tim Cook reshuffled the management of Apple's AI team, appointing Mike Rockwell, the creator of Vision Pro, to lead Siri’s development. Although the idea of smart earbuds with cameras is interesting, Apple is not the first to explore this technology. Meta and Google have made strides in this area, with products like Ray-Ban glasses and advancements in their AI systems. Amazon is also working on its Alexa+ to provide more natural interactions with visual elements. All these companies are trying to create effective hands-free assistants that can process visual information. Only time will tell if these innovations meet users' expectations.
