Apple launches Image Playground in iOS 18.2 for creating cartoon-like images from text descriptions

Apple's iOS 18.2 introduces Image Playground, a new app for creating cartoon-like images from text descriptions. Users can generate images by typing phrases and refining results with additional descriptors. The app is currently in beta and available only to developers. Image Playground allows users to create personalized images based on photos of people saved in their Photos app. It offers two animation styles: Animation and Illustration, but does not support photorealistic images. Users can share creations via Messages or the Share Sheet. The app has limitations, including only generating portrait-style images and struggling with text. Apple has implemented strict content restrictions to prevent inappropriate images. Currently, access to Image Playground requires joining a waitlist, with a public release expected in mid-December.
