AOC gains support for 2028 presidential nomination
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has emerged as a potential candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028. The New York congresswoman is gaining attention within her party, especially following the Democrats’ challenges after the 2024 election defeat. Recent polls indicate Ocasio-Cortez is seen as a leading figure. A CNN poll shows her as the top choice among Democrats for someone who reflects the party's core values, with 10% support. However, when it comes to actual 2028 support, she ranks third, far behind former Vice President Kamala Harris, who leads with 36%. Other polls confirm this trend. In a Morning Consult survey, Ocasio-Cortez had only 5% support, tied for third with California Governor Gavin Newsom. Harris again dominated that poll. Another Echelon Insights poll showed her at 7%, trailing Harris and Buttigieg. Ocasio-Cortez has been rallying support alongside Senator Bernie Sanders, attracting large crowds. At a recent event, she emphasized the need for a Democratic Party that truly advocates for the working class. As the 2028 election approaches, many potential candidates may not announce their intentions until 2027. In addition to Ocasio-Cortez, Harris, Buttigieg, and other prominent Democrats are expected to weigh their options.
