Angels add Tim Anderson to Opening Day roster
The Los Angeles Angels have named veteran shortstop Tim Anderson to their Opening Day roster. This decision comes alongside other changes within the team. The Angels promoted reliever Ryan Johnson and signed Nicky Lopez to a one-year contract. However, they designated lefty relievers José Quijada and Angel Perdomo for assignment. Anderson, a two-time All-Star, is looking to bounce back after a tough season with the Miami Marlins. Last year, he had a batting average of just .214 in 65 games and was released before the All-Star Break. The Angels signed him this offseason after he agreed to a minor league contract. In spring training, Anderson played 21 games and batted .263 with one home run and three stolen bases. Although not outstanding, he is expected to add speed and solid contact skills to the team. Zach Neto is injured, likely giving Kevin Newman the starting shortstop position. Anderson, Lopez, and Kyren Paris may serve as bench players. Additionally, the designation of Perdomo and Quijada seems to secure a spot for Garrett McDaniels on the Opening Day roster. McDaniels was picked from the Dodgers in the Rule 5 draft and displayed impressive ground-ball statistics during spring training.
