Android 16 may feature new lock screen notification shelf option
Google is developing a new feature for Android 16 that allows users to collapse notifications into a shelf on the lock screen. This option will let users choose between a compact view or a full list of notifications. The compact layout aims to reduce clutter on the lock screen, making it easier to see wallpaper and find important notifications. Users can also opt to automatically hide notifications they have already seen and remove silent notifications from the lock screen. These features are currently hidden in the Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3 but are expected to be available in the upcoming Android 16 release. The new settings will provide more customization for managing notifications on the lock screen.
