Andorra named safest country; US, UK rank poorly
According to recent data from Numbeo, the safest country for travelers in 2025 is Andorra. This small European nation scored 84.7 on the safety index, making it the top choice for those concerned about personal security. Andorra is located between Spain and France and has a population of about 82,600 people. Following Andorra are the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Taiwan, and Oman. These countries also received high safety scores. In contrast, the United States ranks poorly at 89th place with a score of 50.8. The survey highlights the concerns travelers have, including fears about crimes like mugging and robbery, both during day and night. The most dangerous country in the world, as per the survey, is Venezuela, which scored only 19.3. The U.S. State Department has issued a Level 4 travel advisory for Venezuela due to high levels of violent crime and political unrest. Other countries in the bottom five include Papua New Guinea, Haiti, Afghanistan, and South Africa. The United Kingdom scored slightly better than the U.S., ranking 87th with a score of 51.7. This indicates that while safety in some places has improved, many nations still face significant crime challenges.
