Amtrak service suspended in Boston due to fire
Amtrak has temporarily closed its service in and out of Boston due to a power issue. The suspension was announced on Monday after overhead wires caught fire near the MBTA's Hyde Park station. Boston Fire Department officials believe the fire may be linked to recent weather conditions. District Chief Steven Fairnini suggested that water might be causing transformers to short circuit. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion around the Hyde Park station, where flames and smoke were visible. As a result of the fire, two trains on the Northeast Regional Line were stopped, and an MBTA train leaving South Station was canceled. All other MBTA trains are currently bypassing the Hyde Park station and operating on the Fairmount Line. A spokesperson for Keolis, which operates commuter rail services, mentioned that passengers on the Providence/Stoughton and Franklin lines are facing delays due to the fire activity. They advised passengers to contact Amtrak for more information and to subscribe to MBTA alerts for updates. The Boston Fire Department remains on the scene, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
