Americans want more government action, trust neither party

A new CNN poll reveals a record number of Americans want the government to do more to solve the country's problems. However, few trust either the Republican or Democratic party to effectively achieve this. The survey shows 58% of Americans believe the government should be more active, yet over 40% feel neither party can get things done or has strong leadership. Despite this, a majority see significant differences between the two parties, with the GOP holding an advantage on key attributes. The poll also indicates a decline in belief in the American Dream and growing concerns about democracy. The survey was conducted from May 5-26, 2025, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
