Aldi named cheapest UK supermarket for January with narrow margin over Lidl
Aldi has been named the cheapest supermarket in the UK for January, costing £185.83 for 100 grocery items. It narrowly beat Lidl, which cost £186.59. Asda ranked third at £204.90, despite not having a loyalty scheme. Waitrose was the most expensive supermarket, with a total of £242.91 for the same items, making it £57.08 more than Aldi. Ocado followed as the second most costly at £231.03. In a larger study of 210 items, Asda emerged as the cheapest at £518.90, while Waitrose remained the most expensive at £592.34, a difference of £73.44. Aldi and Lidl were not included in this larger comparison.
