Alberta cattle lender restarts loans after compliance

Alberta's largest cattle financing co-op, Picture Butte Feeder Cooperative, will restart its loan program after the province lifted a suspension due to regulatory issues. The Alberta government determined PBFC is now compliant with feeder association rules, allowing it to resume loans under the Feeders Association Loan Guarantee Program. The co-op had been prohibited from issuing loans earlier this year following an inspection and board resignations. The suspension caused hardship for producers, but the co-op, under new management, will resume full operations on Monday, May 26. The government will continue oversight while a new board is elected.
