The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred about 25-30 miles southwest of Deadhorse. Schulte, a senior scientist with Manomet Conservation Sciences, was known for his work with shorebirds and previously served as select board chair in Kennebunk, Maine.
