Airways NZ delays price hike after industry complaints
Airways New Zealand extended the feedback period for its proposed price increases after complaints from airlines and airports. The extension follows concerns about the financial impact of the proposed 7.7% annual price hike over three years. Airlines and airports, including Christchurch and Queenstown, expressed worries about optimistic growth forecasts and potential air traffic controller shortages. The NZ Airports Association and airlines warned of the cumulative effect of rising costs. The price increase, starting July 1, adds to existing financial pressures, including rising Civil Aviation Authority fees and the International Visitor Levy. Consultation began on March 5, the same day the proposal was announced.
