AI-enhanced mammography boosts cancer detection rates in self-pay program
A new study shows that more than a third of women in a self-pay program for AI-enhanced mammography had a 21% higher cancer detection rate compared to those who did not enroll. This program was offered across 10 health care practices. The AI software used in the program provided a safeguard review by an expert radiologist when there were discrepancies in results. Overall, the cancer detection rate for enrolled women was 43% higher than for unenrolled women. The study indicates that many women are interested in using AI for better screening. Researchers plan to conduct further studies to better understand the benefits of this AI-driven approach.
