Agibot targets 5,000 humanoid robots production in 2025

Agibot, a Chinese robotics start-up, aims to ramp up its production this year. The company plans to make between 3,000 and 5,000 humanoid robots, a big jump from last year's output of fewer than 1,000 units. Agibot, also called Zhiyuan Robotics, was co-founded by former Huawei employees. The increase in production comes as the robotics industry in China is growing quickly. In the first two months of 2025, industrial robot production rose by 27%, reaching over 91,000 units. Meanwhile, service robots saw a 36% increase to 1.5 million units, according to government data. Agibot, established in 2023, is becoming an important player in Shanghai's robotics market. The company currently has a facility in the Lingang New Area and plans to open a new plant in Pudong. This new facility will allow them to produce more than 400 robots each month. Yao Maoqing, a partner at Agibot, said the goal this year is to introduce new robots for industrial uses. These robots will perform specific tasks to benefit customers. However, he noted that it may take around five more years for humanoid robots to be widely adopted in households.
