Activist burns self while attacking Tesla station in South Carolina
A 24-year-old man named Daniel Clarke-Pounder has been arrested for setting fire to a Tesla charging station in South Carolina. During this protest against Elon Musk, he accidentally caught himself on fire. Clarke-Pounder damaged three electric vehicle chargers in a parking lot and left behind graffiti with political messages. Witnesses reported that he threw five Molotov cocktails, but one of them set his back ablaze. Police later apprehended him after asking the public for help in finding him. It is currently unclear how badly he was injured in the incident. Clarke-Pounder is a mechanic from James Island and has faced legal trouble before. He was previously arrested for driving under the influence last year. Following his protest, he was arraigned in federal court and could face up to 20 years in prison. Officials have condemned his actions. Acting U.S. Attorney Brook B. Andrews stated that while peaceful protests are allowed, violence will not be tolerated. The Tesla brand has recently seen increased protests, partly due to Musk's ties to former President Trump’s administration. Violent confrontations, such as the attack on a Colorado Tesla dealership, have also occurred.
