A trial is ongoing in Toronto regarding a fatal boat crash that occurred in May 2022. Filip Grkovski is accused of taking control of the boat just minutes before the crash. He faces several charges, including impaired operation causing death, but has pleaded not guilty. On Friday, a passenger named Edward Denkha testified in court. He described being on the boat with Grkovski and others, where they had been drinking and socializing. Denkha admitted he had consumed six drinks during their seven-hour outing. As they were returning to the marina, Grkovski asked Denkha to drive the boat again, but he refused because he was unfamiliar with the area. Denkha noted that Grkovski appeared angry after arguing with his girlfriend. After refusing to take the wheel, Grkovski took control and drove the boat at high speed. Denkha warned him to slow down but said the crash happened moments later. Following the accident, Denkha found himself trapped underwater but managed to escape. Two individuals, Megan Wu and Julio Abrantes, drowned in the incident. Denkha expressed concern for everyone's safety, urging Grkovski to ensure no one died. The trial continues, with the defense set to begin cross-examination on Monday. Grkovski is charged with multiple counts of criminal negligence and impaired operation, among others.
