Certain hormone drugs linked to slightly higher brain tumor risk

Summary: Millions of women using certain hormone drugs for contraception and managing conditions like endometriosis may have a slightly increased risk of benign brain tumors. Prolonged use of specific progestogens was linked to a higher risk of meningioma. The study found a 5.6-fold higher risk with medroxyprogesterone acetate. Pfizer is updating product labels. The risk is small, with about 20 in every thousand affected. Women are advised not to stop medication without consulting a doctor.
