5G smartphones available; 6G not yet released
Most smartphones today support 4G and 5G connectivity. 4G requires speeds of 100 Mbps for mobile users, while 5G includes both sub-6 GHz and mmWave options. Many phones priced over $300 offer 5G capabilities. As of March 2025, several brands have 5G smartphones, including Samsung Galaxy S23, Apple iPhone 16e, Google Pixel 7, and OnePlus 11. However, there are currently no 6G phones available, as 6G technology is still under development. The International Telecommunication Union has outlined a framework for 6G, with early testing expected between 2028 and 2030. Full 6G rollout is anticipated after 2035. For now, 4G is suitable for basic users, while 5G is better for those needing faster speeds.
