The Conversation April 24, 2024, 03:00 PM UTC

Summary: Two malaria vaccines, RTS,S and R21, have been developed in the last three years. The R21/Matrix-M vaccine targets sporozoites to prevent malaria transmission. Children under five are most vulnerable to malaria, with a child dying every minute in Africa. The R21 vaccine costs US$3.90 per dose and could help reduce malaria deaths from 600,000 to 200,000 annually by the end of the decade. Malaria eradication worldwide is projected for the 2030s.
