Zoox gets federal exemption for robotaxis

Zoox received a federal exemption allowing its autonomous vehicles to operate on U.S. roads, moving its Las Vegas robotaxi service closer to launch. The exemption from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration permits Zoox's vehicles, which lack traditional features like steering wheels and mirrors, to be tested and operated. This follows an expansion of the program to include American-built autonomous vehicles. Zoox has been testing in Las Vegas since 2019 and plans to launch a commercial service, though state approval for paid rides is still pending.
