Zelensky announces dismissals in SBU and GUR after Kyiv shootout

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced dismissals of deputy heads in both the SBU and GUR following a shootout between personnel of the two agencies. Two suspects, one from each service, have been formally notified of suspicion in connection with the incident. The shootout occurred on September 2 in Kyiv's Dnipro district, reportedly during an SBU operation involving the disappearance of a GUR-linked Russian opposition fighter. The SBU stated it was preventing an FSB-planned terrorist attack, while a lawyer said SBU officers opened fire, wounding three people. Zelensky stated that assessments of the agency leaders will follow the official investigation, emphasizing that both structures acted improperly. The General Prosecutor's Office confirmed charges against an SBU officer for abuse of power and a GUR serviceman for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
