Zelensky announces dismissals and review of GUR and SBU leadership after shooting

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced personnel changes in Ukraine's military intelligence and security service following a shooting between their servicemen on September 1-2, with deputies to be dismissed and chiefs to be assessed. The president said an official investigation will determine evaluations for the heads of the SBU and GUR. Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko reported suspicions against two participants: an SBU employee and a GUR serviceman. Zelensky stressed both structures acted improperly and must be held accountable. The GUR has been led by Lieutenant General Oleh Ivashchenko since January 2026, while Major General Oleksandr Poklad has served as acting SBU chief since July 17.
