WTO reappoints Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for second term as trade tensions rise

The World Trade Organization has reappointed Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for a second four-year term. This decision was made by member countries on Friday. Okonjo-Iweala's new term begins in September 2024. She is the first woman and first African to lead the WTO. Her reappointment comes as concerns grow about the organization's future with Donald Trump returning to the U.S. presidency. Trump previously imposed tariffs that bypassed WTO rules.
