The Water Resources Department (WRD) removed encroached structures from Kovilpadagai lake, a planned drinking water source, to facilitate its development. The WRD cleared 16 encroached structures and 15 fenced sites in the lake area near Avadi, reclaiming approximately 25,000 sq. ft. of land. The lake, with a large storage capacity, is slated to become a drinking water source for the area. The project includes deepening the lake's surplus course to connect to the Red Hills reservoir and a proposed Rs. 40 crore project to convert the lake into a drinking water source.
