Worldwide internal displacement reached record high in 2024

A new report reveals a record 83.4 million internally displaced people (IDPs) worldwide by the end of 2024, a 50% increase in six years. The IDMC and NRC report attributes the surge primarily to violence and conflict, affecting 73.5 million people, with Sudan and Gaza particularly impacted. Natural disasters also displaced nearly 10 million people. The report highlights the interconnectedness of conflict, poverty, and climate change, while also noting funding cuts for humanitarian aid, potentially worsening the crisis.
