World Cities Day observance opens in Shanghai with focus on sustainable urban development

The 2024 World Cities Day China Observance opened in Shanghai on October 31, focusing on "Building People-centered Cities for Better Life." The event featured around 350 attendees, including government officials, mayors, and experts. This year marks the tenth anniversary of World Cities Day and the fifth anniversary of the "People-centered Cities" concept. The event released the Shanghai Manual 2024 Annual Report and introduced new integrated indicators for urban development. Five public activities were launched to encourage community participation, including competitions for youth and urban renewal projects.
