World Cities Day 2024 opens in Alexandria, Egypt, highlighting sustainable urban development

The Global Observance of World Cities Day 2024 began in Alexandria, Egypt, on October 31. The event featured the English version of the Shanghai Manual 2024 Annual Report and announced the winners of the Shanghai Award for Sustainable Development in Cities. This year's award recognized Agadir, Morocco; Thiruvananthapuram, India; Doha, Qatar; Iztapalapa, Mexico; and Melbourne, Australia. The theme was "Building a Sustainable Urban Future for All," focusing on urban development and climate resilience. The 12th World Urban Forum will follow in Cairo from November 4 to 8, including a side event on November 5 to discuss global urban sustainable development practices.
