Workshop highlights biodiversity and climate action in Tamil Nadu

A workshop on forest and biodiversity was held in Dohnavur, organized by Tirunelveli district's environment and climate change mission. Collector K.P. Karthikeyan emphasized the Western Ghats' biodiversity and the need for protective measures amid worsening climate change. Karthikeyan noted that 2024 was the hottest year on record and highlighted Tamil Nadu's high awareness of climate issues. He mentioned the Tamil Nadu government's initiative to create a climate center to address health challenges related to people, animals, and the environment. The workshop included sessions on various topics, such as the Green Tamil Nadu Mission and the importance of local plant species. Experts discussed the biodiversity of the region, including the Thamirabarani river and its wildlife.
