Women underrepresented in Thailand's GenAI course enrolment
Coursera reports that women in Thailand are underrepresented in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) courses, making up only 30% of enrolments despite being 50% of online learners. This trend mirrors global statistics, where women account for 32% of GenAI enrolments. In 2024, women's enrolment in GenAI courses in Thailand increased by 370%, outpacing men's 191% growth. Coursera's new playbook aims to address the gender gap, highlighting that women often prefer beginner courses and face barriers like self-doubt and time constraints. Many women are hesitant to pursue GenAI due to uncertainty about its career applications. They are more likely to engage when GenAI is connected to practical fields such as healthcare and education.
