Women and children in Gaza scavenge for food as hunger crisis deepens, UN reports
GENEVA, Nov 29 (Reuters) - A U.N. official reported that many women and children in Gaza are scavenging for food amid severe hunger. Ajith Sunghay highlighted the dire conditions, especially in central Gaza, where aid efforts are ongoing but insufficient. Sunghay noted that the U.N. has been unable to deliver aid to northern Gaza, where about 70,000 people remain. He described the living conditions in displacement camps as horrendous, with critical shortages of food and sanitation. The Israeli government claims it facilitates humanitarian aid, while U.S. officials have stated that Israel is not currently obstructing assistance. However, looting has further reduced available aid supplies in the region.
