Woman charged with looting wildfire-damaged home in Los Angeles

A woman named Karen Mastey was arrested for allegedly looting a home destroyed in a wildfire in January. She was found with stolen antiques while wearing a "Palisades Strong" T-shirt, which promotes support for fire victims. Authorities received a report of suspicious activity after a homeowner discovered items missing from their property. Mastey was later located in Santa Clarita, about 35 miles away, with some of the stolen goods. In response to looting concerns, California lawmakers are proposing tougher penalties for crimes during disasters. Recent statistics show that at least two dozen arrests have been made in evacuation zones following the recent wildfires.
