Wildfire in Drôme, eastern France, burns 280 hectares

An uncontrolled wildfire in the Drôme department of eastern France has burned 280 hectares as of Tuesday afternoon, with authorities reporting the fire is not yet contained. The fire started late Monday in the mountainous Diois area south of the Vercors massif. Conditions were "very unfavorable" with strong heat and wind causing numerous reactivations. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, and a yurt and caravan were destroyed. A force of 470 firefighters, supported by two Dash planes, four Canadair water bombers, and a helicopter, protected homes, farms, and the village of Montlahuc. Separately, authorities suspect a fire in the Var department's Gros Bessillon massif was deliberately set, where 1,850 hectares have burned since Friday.
