Wigan mother recalls son's five-day coma from sepsis at age five

A mother from Wigan has described how her son Archie's life-threatening sepsis battle in 2018 changed their family overnight, leaving him in a coma for five days at age five. He was diagnosed with meningitis B, which developed into sepsis. Archie spent two weeks at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, receiving intensive care and rehabilitation before discharge. Now 13, he continues regular check-ups, operations, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy at the hospital, where his family has raised over £14,000 over eight years. Speaking during Sepsis Awareness Month, his mother Kate praised hospital staff's support, calling it vital during their darkest days. The family's fundraising includes a sponsored head shave and a Lake District climb, with charity officials expressing gratitude for their efforts.
