Why a third of French SMEs failed to prepare for mandatory e-invoicing
A third of French small and medium-sized businesses had not selected an approved electronic invoicing platform by the end of July, ahead of the reform's operational launch on September 1st, according to DGFIP data. This leaves many firms unprepared for the new mandatory system. Business leaders cite heavy workloads, distrust, and a lack of technological familiarity as key obstacles. Franck Cannata of UPE06 warns the reform is "cataclysmic" for small firms, adding administrative strain during a difficult economic period. Some entrepreneurs question the reform's effectiveness in fighting fraud. While larger companies with dedicated staff are ready, many small business owners admit they have not engaged with the process, relying on accountants. Local chambers of commerce have organized training sessions, but some entrepreneurs remain skeptical, calling the reform a "headache" that complicates their daily operations.
