Who needs blood sugar monitoring beyond diabetes: Life.ru explains

news.mail.ru (Russian) —

Continuous glucose monitoring is not exclusively for diabetes diagnosis, as it can provide useful dynamic data for people without the condition. Endocrinologist Antonina Khodashinskaya explained to Life.ru that such monitoring can supplement standard examinations. The technology is beneficial for those with prediabetes, metabolic risk factors like obesity, or polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome. It also helps track glucose fluctuations caused by medications like glucocorticosteroids, dietary changes, physical activity, and sleep disruptions. Experts stress that glucose levels are highly variable, influenced by food, stress, and time of day. Therefore, monitoring is not a direct diagnostic tool and cannot replace laboratory tests, as sensors measure interstitial fluid rather than blood.
