Wellington woman admits giving friend prescription drugs despite repeated overdoses

A Wellington woman pleaded guilty to supplying a friend with prescription medication, knowing the friend had repeatedly overdosed and been hospitalized; she awaits sentencing. After the victim overdosed and left hospital, the defendant supplied her propranolol for 18 months without a prescription. The victim was hospitalized almost a dozen times, yet the defendant continued despite being asked at least three times to stop. Both women were prescribed propranolol in 2022. The defendant later searched online about fatal overdoses, and police found seven packets and a bottle of the drug. Sentencing and name-suppression decisions are pending.
