Warm seas raise storm risk in Macerata province, climatologist warns

ilrestodelcarlino.it (Italian) —

Climatologist Carlo Bisci warns that unusually warm seas could trigger intense downpours across the Macerata province for several weeks, posing risks of damage despite temperatures returning to near-normal levels within a week. Bisci, from the University of Camerino, noted September saw two intense rainfall phases that locally reached monthly averages, but these events barely replenish groundwater still suffering from summer drought and reduced snowfall. October projections indicate above-average temperatures with increased, sometimes abrupt, precipitation. The expert attributes these patterns to human-caused climate change, citing the central Adriatic reaching 30 degrees Celsius in August and cooling only marginally since, which fuels strong evaporation and severe thunderstorms.
