Visually impaired in Quimper embrace AI smart glasses as life-changing

ouest-france.fr (French) —

In Quimper, France, a growing number of visually impaired people are adopting AI-powered smart glasses, with one local optician reporting that 90% of his connected eyewear sales go to blind or partially sighted customers. Chantal Sergent, a 60-year-old resident with retinitis pigmentosa, has used the glasses since March. She says they let her answer the phone, have AI read SMS messages and recipes, and identify canned goods, restoring a sense of independence. The technology also assists with computer updates and translates restaurant menus while traveling abroad. Sergent, who has been blind for 17 years, described the device as life-changing.
