Visayan Electric braces for outages as Visayas grid hits red alert

Visayan Electric has warned customers of possible rotational power interruptions on September 3, 2026, after the Visayas grid was placed under Red and Yellow Alerts due to a 792-megawatt generation shortfall. The deficit stems from 579.1 MW lost to forced plant outages and 212.9 MW from reduced capacity, prompting NGCP to declare Yellow Alerts from 10 AM to 1 PM and at 11 PM, plus a Red Alert from 1 PM to 10 PM. Visayan Electric clarified the issue lies with generation and transmission, not its local network. President Engr. Mark Anthony B. Kindica said the utility is coordinating with grid authorities and will release outage schedules via official channels if Manual Load Dropping is mandated. The company urges voluntary energy conservation during peak hours to ease grid pressure.
