Vinegar in washing machines: safe use limits and risks
Using vinegar in a washing machine is safe only in moderation, as excessive acid can damage rubber parts and hoses. Experts recommend a preventive empty cycle with vinegar every 2-3 months, not more often. Nine-percent table vinegar dissolves limescale on the heating element, drum, and hoses, removes alkaline detergent residue, and fights odors and mold. For regular laundry, 50-100 milliliters per cycle is sufficient, while 150-200 milliliters is needed for cleaning an empty machine. Vinegar essence at 70-80% concentration must be diluted before use, and vinegar should never be mixed with chlorine-based products due to toxic gas release. Frequent use increases the risk of damaging rubber seals, so adding vinegar more than once a month is not recommended.
