Veterans in Calgary honor Canada's 60 years of peacekeeping in Cyprus
Veterans in Calgary reflected on Canada's peacekeeping legacy, particularly its mission in Cyprus, which began 60 years ago. Bradley Mills, who served there, returned to commemorate the anniversary and noted a lack of awareness among students about Canada's peacekeeping role. Canada's peacekeeping efforts, including Operation Snowgoose in Cyprus, have involved approximately 28,000 Canadians since 1964. The last major deployment left in 1993, but one soldier remains on the island each year. Veterans emphasized the importance of understanding peacekeeping beyond just military presence. The contributions of Canadian peacekeepers are celebrated, with exhibits at The Military Museums in Calgary. Veterans highlighted the need to learn from past missions and the importance of remembering those who served, advocating for peace over war.
